It began with a simple question during a late-night conversation: How do you make someone truly feel the weight of a billion? Not understand it intellectually, but feel it viscerally. Static infographics and bar charts weren't cutting it.

The breakthrough came when we realized that watching numbers accumulate in real-time creates a fundamentally different experience than reading them. SnapCounters was born from that insight – a living dashboard of humanity, not a dead report.

None of us work on SnapCounters full-time. It's a passion project maintained between other commitments – which is why we value every correction, suggestion, and kind word from visitors.

Most websites want your attention forever. We want to give you a moment of perspective, then let you go. There's no infinite scroll here, no engagement tricks, no dark patterns designed to trap you.

We measure success not in time-on-site, but in the messages we receive saying "I've never thought about the world this way before." That's the reaction we optimize for.

Every counter goes through a two-part test before we add it. First: Is there a credible, citable source? Second: Does it provoke an emotional response – wonder, surprise, reflection? Dry statistics get rejected.

We also reject anything that could shame or alarm. You won't find "cigarettes smoked" or "crimes committed" here. The goal is perspective, not anxiety.

Every counter starts with a published annual or daily estimate from sources such as the UN, WHO, NASA, IEA, OECD, industry reports, or official network data. We convert those baselines into per-second rates so the live experience remains transparent and repeatable.
